sciaticIf you are experiencing lower back or leg pain, sciatica may be the cause. Sciatica is a common type of pain affecting the sciatic nerve which is a large nerve that extends from the lower back down to the back of the legs. Common symptoms of sciatica are warm feelings or a tingling feeling down one or both legs, pain in the leg or bottom that proceeds to feel much more discomforting while sitting, a continuous pain on one side of the bottom, a sharp pain that makes it hard to stand, numb feeling that causes difficulty in transitioning the feet or legs. In most cases, sciatica only affects one side of the body. The pain usually begins in the patient’s lower back and sharply sends pain down the back to the leg. Some find the pain caused by sciatica unbearable, while others find it just annoying. The lumbar spine plays a large role in the causes of sciatica. Additional causes of sciatica can be pregnancy, degenerative disc disease, lumbar spinal stenosis, or spondylolisthesis. Sciatica can make normal every day tasks turn into nightmares if not treated. Grocery shopping, playing with family or pets, exercise, cleaning can feel overwhelming to some with sciatica. Having sciatic pain can lead to further issues if gone untreated. It can cause lack of sleep, depression, irritability, and pain in other areas of the body due to lack of movement. This is not something to be taken lightly, especially when treatments are available and affordable.
