Fibromyalgia is a syndrome, which the person affected, experiences long-term, pain and tenderness in the joints, tendons, soft tissues, and muscles. Fibromyalgia has also been linked to several symptoms such as fatigue, constant muscle pain, tightness or spasms, Tension or migraine headaches, the inability to sleep, feeling a stiff sensation while walking, tender feelings in the face, sensitivity to light, smell, medications, cold, or food, lack of memory, and the feeling of being swollen without actually being swollen. Factors such as a, stressful, emotional, or traumatic event may also be a cause of fibromyalgia. Possible causal factors may include things such as post-traumatic stress disorder, arthritis, repetitive injuries, lupus, or CNS. It is necessary for a patient to see a doctor several times before determining that the patient has fibromyalgia. This is because the symptoms are very similar to other things and the doctor wants to make sure not to misdiagnose. They want to make sure that it is not other illnesses or contributing factors caused by the symptoms the patient is experiencing. There are not any lab tests that can determine if it is fibromyalgia. This can become very frustrating for the doctor and the patient experiencing the pain. A history of pain for more than three months can be a determining factor as well as having more than 18 tender points on the body. Some people depend on high dosage of pain medication to eliminate pain caused by fibromyalgia, while others take the minimum amount. Every body is different and has different tolerations.
